Unit 7 - Kennedy and the Cold War and Johnson's Great Society

Overview of Unit: During the late 1950’s President Eisenhower opposed the expansion of communism. He used secret means to keep communism from spreading and threatened to use nuclear weapons. At home, Eisenhower shifted domestic policy from the New Deal and Fair Deal to Modern Republicanism. In this unit you will learn how the Democratic administrations of John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson implemented new policies and programs that changed American life. You will also learn how they dealt with foreign-policy crises caused by Cold War tensions.
